Mangaluru: Four from the same family were found dead on the night of Tuesday December 7 following a quarrel and fear of religious conversion.
The deceased have been identified as Nagesh Sheraguppi (30), wife Vijayalakshmi (26) and children Swapna (8) and Samarth (4), all natives of Bilagi Village in Bagalkote District. It is said that the family was residing at Morgans Gate in the City.
Nagesh was working as a driver while Vijayalakshmi was a domestic help.
In October, Vijayalakshmi left home for work and did not return. Nagesh filed a missing complaint with the police. Soon Vijayalakshmi appeared before police station and alleged that her husband tortures her daily, and hence she left home. Police sent them back after advising the duo.
On Tuesday night Nagesh bought fried rice for dinner and laced it with poison. Both children died immediately, and then Nagesh strangulated Vijayalakshmi. Later, he too hung himself to death.
The death note written by Nagesh states he feared that Vijayalakshmi would be converted to Islam by one Noorjahan. He alleged that his wife and he would always quarrel as she would be defiant and not listen to him. He had also asked her not to go to work but she did pay heed to him. The note alleged that Noorjahan is reason for their death.
Pandeshwara Police have registered a case and taken custody of Noorjahan for questioning.
