Mandd Sobhann, a prominent cultural organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Konkani, continues its mission by organizing children’s talent camps aimed at nurturing and enriching the Konkani heritage for future generations. The inauguration of this year’s ‘Voap’, a 9-day vacation camp, took place at Shaktinagar, Kalaangann on April 27.
Renowned singer and musician Ritesh Ozario inaugurated the camp’s clay idol in a distinctive manner by painting it gold. The esteemed dramatist Francis Fernandes from Cascia graced the occasion as the chief guest, alongside President Louis Pinto on the dais. Notably, the camp has garnered recognition from the University of Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Display Arts, Mysuru.
Arun Raj Rodrigues delivered an introductory address, while camp convener Victor Mathais provided insights into the upcoming programs. Carol Madtha skillfully compered the event.
A total of 31 girls and 27 boys from Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts are actively participating in the camp. They will engage in learning various disciplines such as dance, drama, singing, as well as delve into Konkani language, culture, public speaking, and television program hosting. Their acquired skills will be showcased to the public during the 269th monthly platform event scheduled for May 5.
These camps, initiated in 1999, have served as a breeding ground for nurturing talents, with many participants gaining prominence in the cultural sphere. Mandd Sobhann’s ‘Voap’ Talent Camp stands as a beacon for preserving and passing on the rich legacy of Konkani culture to the forthcoming generations.
