Mangaluru: The city police commissionerate has taken strict action against traffic violations, leading to the cancellation of 222 driving licenses. Among the offenses that resulted in license cancellations, 113 drivers were penalized for over speeding and negligence. Other violations included drunk driving (1), using mobile phones while driving (4), jumping red signals (5), overloading in commercial vehicles (4), carrying three passengers on two-wheelers (3), driving without a helmet (59), and driving without seat belts (17).

To address the issue of driving license violations, the Supreme Court’s Road Safety Committee has introduced a new measure. As per this directive, individuals found breaking traffic regulations under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860 and the Motor Vehicles Act 1988/2019 will face daily fines. The main aim of this initiative is to discourage reckless driving behaviors and encourage strict adherence to road safety norms. By implementing daily fines, authorities hope to instill a sense of responsibility among drivers and create a safer road environment. This move underscores the significance of following traffic rules to reduce accidents and ensure the overall safety of all road users.
