Mangaluru : The Congress on Friday March 10 staged a protest on the State Highway leading to Venur – BC Road near MESCOM here, alleging that the circle being constructed by the Public Works Department was in an unscientific manner and demanded the removal of the Circle.

Addressing the protesters, Former Minister Abhaychandra Jain said that the Circle, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 Lakh from the MLA’s fund, is in an unscientific manner. Hundreds of vehicles ply on this road everyday and there is a possibility of accidents due to the huge circle disrupting vehicular traffic.

A protest has already been held and the Municipality, PWD Engineers and MLAs have been alerted.

When we requested the Deputy Commissioner, he had sought two days’ time. But nothing has progressed. Government funds are being misused through MLAs for 40 per cent commission, he alleged.

He added that the MLAs, who are awarding contracts in the name of their relatives, do not understand the plight of the people. “I had personally met the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada and requested him to fix the unscientific circle. But Deputy Commissioner, who had sought two days’ time, remained silent without taking any action. We don’t keep quiet when we see the difficulties being faced by the people,” he said.

Abhayachandra warned that the Moodabidri Congress would stage a protest in front of the DC’s Office soon.
