Mangaluru: Huge potholes resembling lunar crater have been created on the Kulur bridge of Udupi-Mangaluru National Highway 64. The old bridge at Kulur, which connects Udupi – Mangaluru, has been badly damaged with asphaltation disappearing and posing a challenge to commute on vehicles on the road.
It takes motorists at least 10 minutes to cross this 150-metre-long bridge during peak hours in the morning and evening. Riders and drivers’ lives become really miserable as they pass through the nightmarish potholes. As the asphaltation has worn out, the iron rods disrupts smooth ride of two-wheelers, and also putting their lives in danger.
The bridge was constructed in 1952, and now it is in a dilapidated condition. The bridge was closed for two months in 2020 for repairs and renovation. However, at present not only this bridge but the road from Mangaluru to Udupi has also deteriorated. The iron rods placed underneath the concrete are now visible and demand for the repair of the bridge by the public is only growing louder. It is time that the bridge is repaired immediately, thus facilitating smooth flow of the traffic.
