Mangaluru: Another unfortunate incident took place on the afternoon of Friday March 3, when a fire broke out again in a hillock at Kadamballi in Mundaje.
The fire broke out at V. G. Patwardhan’s house due to sparks from an electric transformer on a hillock near the rubber plantation and spread to the surroundings and entered the rubber plantation. There was no damage to the houses in the vicinity. As the Fire Brigade vehicle was on its way to another place, it arrived three hours after the fire broke out and returned at 6.00 pm, holding water all around.
The fire on the other side of the hill went unnoticed and spread after 7.00 pm and thus the hill began to burn again. When the fire brigade was called at this time, they got information that it had moved to another place. The locals who cooperated again managed to bring the fire under control after a continuous operation for about three hours.
On Friday night itself, the owners of the farm had constructed a fire control line through a transformer and hitachi around the hill to prevent any further fire from occurring.
Locals said that precautions were taken but the danger was not averted by the power transformer.
