Mangaluru: Property worth Rs 15 lakh was damaged in a fire that broke out in a fish net at Rudrapada on the shore of Someshwara beach. A fish net worth lakhs of rupees, which was kept near a shed of country boats near Rudrapade on someshwara beach, caught fire in the wee hours today.

It is suspected that the incident was caused by miscreants. The fish nets of country boat fishermen Hemant Uchila, Santosh Uchila, Sadhana Uchila, Shekhar Someshwara and Yogesh Someshwara were completely gutted in the fire. In March last year, two country boats and a fish net were gutted in a fire in the same area, causing a loss of lakhs of rupees. BJP leader Satish Kumpala visited the spot and urged the authorities to provide compensation to the poor fishermen at the earliest.
