Mangaluru: The three-day-long operation to capture the killer wild elephant, which had killed two persons at Naila in Renjiladi Village of Kadaba Taluk, has finally succeeded.

The elephant was spotted at Kombaru (Mandekara) in Mujoor Reserve near Kadaba and it was anaesthetised with a gun.

Ranjitha (21) and Ramesh Rai (52), both residents of the locality, were killed in a wild elephant attack on the morning of February 20. That night itself five elephants, including Abhimanyu, were brought from Dubare in Mysuru and on Monday February 21, a drone camera was used to locate the man-killer elephant and the operation to capture it through Dubare elephants had started at Thumbay Reserve in Renjaladi Village.

But on Wednesday February 22, an attempt to give anaesthesia to elephant failed. It is learnt that the operation to capture the elephant by tracing it again in the evening and shooting anaesthesia was successful.
