Mangaluru: Four persons have been arrested for destroying wire fencing and a CCTV camera that was installed at Someshwara beach to stop the illegal sand mining, informed police.

The arrested accused has been identified as Suraj, a resident of Madyar Sainagar, Iqbal, of Mudipu Madhyanadka, Aqeel, of Talapady, and Prajwal, of Someshwar Mooda. Police noted that the tipper lorry used in the crime had also been seized.

The District Administration set up CCTV cameras near Talapady, Kotepura, and a few other places to stop sand smuggling.
The accused intentionally crashed a tipper lorry onto the CCTV pole near Someshwar on September 10.

However, the police said that the incident was recorded because the cameras were remotely connected through WiFi.
Police added that the incident’s estimated loss is around Rs. 75,000.
