Mangaluru: The people of Mangaluru have something to cheer about. The recent Swachh Survekshan Survey-2018 conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has recognised that Mangaluru city has the best solid waste management system for a city with a population of 3-10 lakh residents.
The results of the assessment, carried out under the umbrella of Swachh Bharat Mission, were announced on May 16.
Two cities in Karnataka also find their names in the list. Mysuru was chosen as India’s cleanest city with a population of 3-10 lakh population while, Hunsur was adjudged as the best city in solid waste management in south zone with less than 1 lakh population.
The annual Swachh Sarvekshan is conducted to encourage cities to improve urban sanitation. The objective of the survey is to enhance participation and awareness among the people for working towards cleaner towns and cities.
