Mangaluru: In a significant development, a 29-year-old man, Vijay Pravin Cutinha, has been convicted and sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The verdict was delivered by the additional district and sessions court in Mangaluru.
Court Verdict and Penalties
The court’s decision mandates that Vijay Pravin Cutinha serves six years of rigorous imprisonment and pays a fine of Rs 20,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of ordinary imprisonment. Additionally, under IPC section 354, the accused faces another three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. A further three months of imprisonment will be enforced if the additional fine is not paid. The court has also directed the government to provide compensation of Rs one lac to the victim.
Incident Details
The incident took place on April 20, 2022, when the minor girl visited a shop in Amblamogaru, Konaje police limits, to buy eatables. Vijay Pravin Cutinha, who was at the shop to purchase beedies, sexually assaulted the girl. The case was subsequently registered at the Konaje police station, and Inspector Sharanappa Bhandary conducted the investigation, submitting the chargesheet to the court.
