Mangaluru: A massive cleanliness drive led by the municipality was launched at Swarajya Maidan on Sunday June 4 as part of ‘World’s Environment Day’ under the ‘My Life My Clean City’ programme.Chief Officer Shiva Naik administered the oath.
Speaking on the occassion Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Engineer Shilpa S, the said, “Under the Swach Bharat Mission City-2.0 scheme, a cleanliness drive has been undertaken with the concept of ‘My Life My Clean City’ by collecting garbage, we are going to segregate the garbage in three ways. Recyclable materials, hazardous materials, non-recyclable items are put in separate bags. She said various educational institutions in Moodbidri have joined hands for this campaign which will be held within the municipal limits.
Swachata Ambassador Gopal, Alva’s Sociology Department Head Dr. Chandrashekar Maiya, Degree Journalism Department Head Rakshitha Kumari Todaru, Psychology Lecturer Ashwathi, State Science Lecturer Divya were present.
On the first day of the campaign, 80 students and 44 pourakarmikas from the department of humanities at Alva’s Degree College cleaned the stretch from Swarajya Maidan to Vidyagiri Junction.
