Mangaluru: If Kasturirangan Report is implemented, lakhs of people will be left on the streets, said Former MLC Ivan D’Souza. He demanded that the notification be dropped immediately.
Speaking to meadiapersons D’Souza said, “Lakhs of people living on the side of the forest will be affected as the Environment Department of the Central Government has issued a notification declaring the Western Ghats as an eco-sensitive area on the virtue of the implementation of the Kasturirangan Report.”
In 2017, the then Congress Government had written to the Centre asking it to take a pilot report and then take action. He said BJP Ministers had made statements that MPs would not allow Kasturirangan Report to be implemented but no one is speaking after the notification.
Karnataka in the eco-sensitive area comprises an area of 21,000 square kilometres and thus 43 villages in Dakshina Kannada District have been declared as eco-sensitive.
