Mangaluru: It is learnt that the police conducted a raid at the District Jail in Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada District on Sunday April 2.
Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Kumar R. Jain said only beedis, cigarettes and tobacco were found during the search. A large number of policemen conducted a surprise check at the District Jail here on Sunday.
Responding to a media query after the inspection, he said, “It is a routine check. Around 300 police personnel, including officers and staff, participated in the meeting. Drugs and mobile phones were not found and the search was carried out for about one-and-a-half hours. The smuggling of ganja and other substances is being done continuously in the jail. I have also spoken to the jail superintendent about it. It is being checked whether the undertrials are making mobile calls. The commissioner said no such activity has been found during the raid.
