In a significant crackdown, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police in Mangaluru apprehended three individuals for the possession of ambergris, commonly known as whale vomit. The arrests occurred near Pumpwell following credible information about a group attempting to engage in the illegal trade of ambergris.
Arrested Individuals
The three arrested individuals have been identified as Pyarejaan (37) from Chikkamagaluru, currently residing in Vittal, Badruddin (28) from Vittal, and Rajesh R (22) from Tamil Nadu. The police acted swiftly based on information indicating the involvement of a group of four individuals in a car in the illicit sale of ambergris.
Seized Items and Estimated Worth
During the operation, the police seized 1.575 kg of ambergris, with an estimated value exceeding Rs 1,57,50,000. Additionally, three mobile phones and the car used by the accused were confiscated. The total worth of the seized items is reported to be Rs 1,62,80,000.
Operation Details
The raid was conducted under the direction of Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, with the support of DCPs Siddharth Goyal and Dinesh Kumar. ACP CCB P A Hegde and other CCB staff played a crucial role in executing the operation.
The successful seizure of a substantial amount of ambergris and the subsequent arrests underscore the commitment of law enforcement to curb illegal activities. The illegal trade of ambergris, a rare and valuable substance, has raised conservation concerns.
