Mangaluru: In a bid to crack down on the Anti-toll Agitation Committee, which stated that the Surathkal toll gate is ready to be demolished on October 18, the District Administration representatives allegedly visited the houses of more than 100 agitators at midnight on Saturday October 15 and issued notices. The committee leaders are said to have been pressurised by the police to sign a bond of Rs. 2 lakh so that they don’t create a ruckus.

It is alleged that Surathkal police has issued notices to several leaders including Muneer Katipalla, Samiti Convener, B. K. Imtiyaz, Pratibha Kulai, Raghavendra Rao and others.

Reacting to this, Congress leader Pratibha Kulai said, “BJP MLA and MP seems to have lost mental health over Surathkal toll gate issue. Shame on the district administration for sending policemen to my house at midnight to suppress the October 18 toll gate protest. I am a social worker and not a terrorist. As a responsible citizen of India, I respect the law of this country. Five policemen from Surathkal Police Station came to my house in Kulai at 11.45 pm last night, which is recorded on CCTV cameras too. At this time, my 74-year-old mother-in-law was at home and was terrified by the behaviour of the Police. I have not received the notice as I was not at home. My question is whether Mangaluru is really safe? Are women safe in Mangaluru? Can anyone come to a house where there are women and knock on the door in the middle of the night? Is this democracy?” she questioned.
