Mangaluru: Three get jail-term for sexual assault on minor

Mangaluru: The additional sessions court and FTSC-2 (POCSO) court sentenced three accused to imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

The accused have been identified as Melwin D’Souza, a resident of Kallapur, Dervin D’Souza, a resident of Kotekar and the mother of the victim.

According to sources, Derwin D’Souza was sentenced to three years in prison, with a fine of Rs. 25,000, two years of rigorous imprisonment under POCSO column 17 and seven years of rigorous imprisonment under IPC column 366. Derwin D’Souza was also given a sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of Rs. 50,000 by Judge K M Radhakrishna under POCSO column 6.

Melwin D’Souza received a sentence of six months in jail and a fine of Rs. 30,000 under POCSO column 21.

Under POCSO’s Column 17, the victim’s mother was sentenced to 14 years of rigorous punishment and a fine of Rs. 25,000.

A payment of Rs. 5 lakh to the victim was also ordered by the judge. From this amount, Rs. 1 lakh must be paid immediately, and the rest Rs. 4 lakh must be deposited in a nationalised bank so the girl can continue her study and withdraw money as needed.
