Mangaluru: The villagers of Mitthottu under the 2nd Ward of Mundaje Gram Panchayat, which comes under the second ward of Mundaje Gram Panchayat have put up the banner that they are banning elections after experiencing that the BJP members who were voted to power have not fullfilled the promised demand.
On the way to Mundaje, which falls on the edge of the National Highway, there are no proper roads from Situ to Kodange, Mitthottu and Moolar. In this area, during the rainy season, it is too slushy for a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler to ply.
“The ward has a population of more than 600 and has more than 300 houses. There are more than 70 houses in Mittottu village itself.
The Village has four Gram Panchayat members. All of them won with the support of the BJP. BJP-backed Members dominate in 11 seats. We have voted for the BJP as the demand made for the last 20 years has not been fulfilled. Last time, the MLAs had said that they would lay the foundation stone for the road by January. But we have not got justice as there has been no development of the road,” said the residents.
Therefore, the residents of Mitthottu, who have lost the patience to wait and watch, have put up banners of ‘Bahishkara’ on the evening of February 25. The villagers have stated, “If you want votes, build a road before the next elections or don’t come to ask for votes.”
The negligence of the Panchayat members has given us doubts. Therefore, in the run-up to the next election, there should not be any kind of election campaigning in the village. Political programmes should not be held on account of elections. The banner clearly states that there will be no persuasion or compromise till the road is fully repaired.
