Bantwal: In a bold incident, four individuals donning masks entered the residence of Florine Pinto in Vagga early Thursday morning, January 11, making off with gold and cash valued at lakhs at knifepoint. Florine Pinto and her daughter, Marina Pinto, were the only occupants of the burglarized house.
The robbery took place at Florine Pinto’s new residence opposite Timmakkana Tree Park at Anchikatte near Vagga. The stolen items included various types of golden ornaments, totaling Rs 2.90 lakh, stored in a cupboard, Rs 30,000 in cash, and a mobile phone.
The sequence of events unfolded when the assailants rang the house’s doorbell at 6:30 am. Upon opening the door, Florine was confronted by the masked intruders wielding a knife, demanding gold and cash. Despite Florine’s resistance, the dacoits used the knife to intimidate her into surrendering the key to the Godrej cupboard.
Marina Pinto, Florine’s daughter, sustained injuries to her hand during the altercation as she bravely resisted the dacoits, as reported by Austin Pinto, Marina’s elder brother. Intriguingly, it was also noted that a juice machine had been stolen from a nearby shop in the same area just two days prior.
SP C B Rishyanth, rural police inspector Shivakumar, and SI Harish visited the scene. The investigation at the site involved the deployment of a canine squad and fingerprint experts.
