Mangaluru: Continuing from where she left, Mayor Kavitha Sanil along with Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials conducted surprise raids on a spa,an ayurvedic centre and a unisex saloon on July 11.
The team led by the Sanil raided Olive Ayurvedic Therapy Centre on Church Road at Bejai and succeeded in rescuing 2 girls. Soon after, the team rushed to Paradise Unisex Beauty Spa but the owner had downed the shutters well in advance probably after sniffing the raid on his business premises. Finally, the team raided Green Valley Unisex Salon near the Collector’s Gate in Balmatta and Royal Spa at Jyothi.
Later speaking to media, Kavitha Sanil said, “We have received several complaints on illegal massage parlours and skill games. In the coming days, along with the police commissioner, MCC will be taking steps to close all skilled games centres and massage parlours in the city.
The massage parlours and skilled games centres raided by the MCC have not obtained any trade licence from Mangaluru City Corporation. There are strict guidelines from the High Court to run skilled games centres under prescribed norms but they are violating the laws. In the name of skilled games, several youths and students are spoiling their life. In future, along with senior officials, we will close all skilled games centres and massage parlours in Mangaluru.”
She also threw light on illegal massage parlours functioning in the name of Ayurvedic Therapy. “They should install CCTV in massage centres but they haven’t. Several women are working in massage centres. We will stop this in future. Mangaluru cannot be Mumbai”, Sanil sternly said.
It may be recalled that few days ago, the mayor had raided a skill games centre in the heart of the city.
