Mangaluru: After having made Rural Service compulsory, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that the ministry is contemplating to send MBBS graduates to other states for the mandatory one-year rural service.
If this proposal materialises, then Karnataka will be the first state to send MBBS graduates to other states.
“The proposal will have to be discussed with the Ministers from other states. I will send the proposal to the Union Ministry after the Belagavi sessions,” said Khader adding that this year, the state will have 6,675 MBBS ‘pass-outs who would have to do rural service. As per the new plan, these students can be deputed to rural areas in states that had shortage of doctors.
“For example, a student who hails from Bihar can serve in a rural area in his state. States that want these graduates would have to pay them stipend,” he said
