Mangaluru: MRPL is observing Oil and Gas Conservation Month from January 16 to February 15, 2017 in association with PCRA.  The inauguration of Samrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav (Saksham-2017) as a part of the Oil and Gas Conservation Month was held in MRPL on January 16.

H Kumar, Managing Director of MRPL inaugurated the programme and said that the government had set up a deadline to reduce the country’s dependence on crude import by 10 percent before 2020. “To do this, alternate energy sources are being explored like the increased use of Ethanol and Bio Fuel among others.  MRPL is planning to set up 2G Ethanol plant to produce bio fuel to achieve the alternate energy source demand”, he said and concluded by advising to sow the seeds of oil conservation by educating the present generation of children for a better future.

M Venkatesh, Director of MRPL Refinery spoke on the occasion and said that there was a need to create awareness about environmental protection by reducing energy consumption.

A pledge to conserve oil was administered during the programme.

MRPL is planning a series of activities to create awareness about energy conservation during the month.  MRPL has planned to make villages in four Grama Panchayats “Smoke free” by distributing LPG connection and kits to the identified persons belonging to the SC/ST and BPL families.

A cycle rally is planned in Mangalore on January 29 to create awareness about the energy conservation among the general public.  An awareness campaign in the All India Radio and several competitions for creating awareness is also planned during the month.
