MCC starts demolition drive to clear drainage in the city

Mangaluru: A week after the torrential rainfall that brought the city to a standstill, the Mangaluru City Corporation went on a special drive to clear the illegal structures constructed on the major drains (Raja Kaaluve) in the city on Tuesday, June 4.

The MCC has started the demolition drive at Kottara Chowki near Mahesh PU College. The MCC engineers and officials removed structures built illegally that had blocked the smooth flow of rainwater last week.

It may be recalled that Kottara Chowki was completely inundated due to heavy rains in the city. Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil had constituted a committee and asked to provide a detailed report on the encroachments. Following this, demolition drive on encroachments was carried out.
