Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar has informed that the ‘Tiger Operation’ to clear the encroachment of the footpaths by the illegal street vendors will be taken up from June 5.

‘Tiger Operation’ will start from Friday, June 5 as the MCC has been receiving many complaints with regard to illegal street vendors encroaching half the footpath at various places.

“Once the materials of illegal street vendors are taken away, it will not be returned to them. Hence, those who have been running their business on footpaths, must make sure that they wind up their business voluntarily,” said the Mayor.

Meanwhile, the Congress has urged the district administration to not evict the street vendors as they are already hit by the lockdown.

Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress President Mithun Rai has come in support of the roadside vendors.

“They are leading a miserable life after the outbreak of coronavirus and the lockdown. Now, district administration should not evict them in the pretext of ‘Tiger Operation’. If district administration continues its eviction, then the Congress will fight against such move out on the streets, ” he said.
