Mangaluru: With a video of Mangalore International Airport parking fee ‘loot’ going viral, it is now learnt that Airport Director has slammed a penalty of Rs 2.5 lac on the parking contractor S S Enterprises. Free parking was provided to commuters on Tuesday, April 3.
It may be recalled that a video of a car driver arguing with an employee for over charging parking fee and the employee justifying the same had gone viral.
In the video, a car driver is seen handing over his parking receipt to the cashier and the cashier is seen demanding Rs 120. Shocked commuter raises objection saying that he was driving a car and not an SUV. The cashier says it is for two hours and calls upon his senior, Rupendra Singh, who arrogantly justifies the same and then flaunts his ID card asking the commuter to videograph his name and complain. As per rules cars and other small vehicles can be charged Rs 55 per hour and Rs 60 for SUV, trucks and the likes.
However, responding to the issue Airport Director V V Rao told newskarnataka.com that though the issue is almost two months old, the contractor has been warned and asked to abide by the complete contract terms and charge parking fee only after he does so.
Meanwhile, Singh, the erring employee has been terminated from service.
