Sullia: Elections were held for 14 seats with 28 candidates in fray belonging to two parties with each party having a pragmatic manifesto. There were 14 constituencies and 14 election booths to elect the eligible candidates. Adequate arrangements were made before and after the polls with officials from the ‘Election Commission’ and the security officials monitoring the poll procedure to ensure that elections were held in free and fair manner. The voting percentage was almost full and the electorate had to choose the best among the two candidates in each constituency.

The best form of democracy was on display at Green view school in Sullia where elections were held to educate students about the democratic system and inculcate democratic values in them. The students from 4th to 10th standard took part in the elections where independents withdrew from contest before the polls as they were  not sure of  mustering enough support. It was a direct contest between students’ welfare party and people’s welfare party and the entire election process took place in an organized manner. The declaration of poll schedule, submission of nomination papers, verification, withdrawal of nomination, campaign, deputing staff to monitor the polling process and every other tiny detail to ensure free and fair polling was followed in these elections.

Each voter was allowed inside the polling booth after due verification of his name and identity card (which was given prior to the polls).  The students monitoring the election process cast their votes through postal ballot. Each voter’s finger was marked with ink and student police force was deployed to ensure smooth polling. The   winners were elated as the results were declared after polling.

Teacher Ranjith donned the role of Chief election officer assisted by others teachers Ranjana and Soumya who took the roles of Assistant election officers.  The election took place under the guidance of School Head master BP Amarnath. Teacher protection committee member Abdul Navoor, School convenor BS Sharif and Adminstrative Board Secretarty KB Ibrahim witnessed the polls along with others.

The young electorate stood in queues and cast their vote in a fearless manner as none of the contesting candidates lured them with freebies! The enthusiasm and active participation displayed by the young electorate gave all others a glimpse of the ‘purest form of democracy’. NOTA was not employed as voters had no option!
