Mangaluru: The Nandini River festival that was inaugurated here on March 20 at Sasihitlu faced a setback when the stage set for the inauguration collapsed, putting the life of Minister of Tourism C P Yogeshwar and others In danger. A catastrophe was averted as the stage collapsed towards the edge of the land and not the river.
It was reported that the stage collapsed as it could not be bear the weight of people in excess on stage. The volunteers almost immediately evicted the minister and the guests from the place of the incident. The public who came to enjoy the river festival went into a panicky mode and created a commotion due to the mass confusion that happened due to the collapse of the stage.
‘The floating of lamps on the river’ event symbolic of inauguration was cancelled due to the incident. Sunday, March 21, the programme will take place as planned and to avert any untoward incident a tightened arrangements and security are in place, it was reported.
