Puttur: The common man had the last laugh when minister travelling on the Shiradi Ghat, that is closed for the public due to ongoing work, were forced to take a detour after an uprooted tree blocked their onward journey.
Karnataka assembly speaker Ramesh Kumar, Urban Development Minister UT Khader and MLC Ivan D’souza had taken the Shiradi Ghat route to travel to Mangaluru on Tuesday, July 10. However a tree that had been uprooted due to the heavy rains left them stranded at Lavathadka. Since clearing the obstruction would have taken up time, the minister and other leaders who were travelling to Mangaluru to take part in the funeral rites of former higher education minister BA Mohideen opted for an alternative road via Ichlampady.
Meanwhile, works on the Shiradi Ghat stretch are expected to be over soon and on July 15 it will be thrown open for traffic.
