Ullal: A minor girl hung self here at her residence after she allegedly became depressed over blackmail by a male friend, working at the Pandeshwar police station.

The deceased has been identified as Jyothi (17) step daughter of retired teacher Jayanthi from Krishnagar. She took the extreme step when her mother had gone to Yoga practice in Kesari Mithra Vrinda in Kumpala on Wednesday morning.

The incident came to light when she returned home and found the room door locked from inside.

The girl had just finished her PU studies in Someshwar Parijnan college and had got admission in Besant college for B.Com. The male police friend has been blamed for harassing her.

In the death note found at her residence it came to be known that she was in contact with a male friend named Praveen Salyan who is working in Pandeshwar police station whom she had met on Facebook. She gave her mobile number and he proposed to her. They were in relationship and met once sometime back.

But  gradually she became upset over his possessiveness – he had asked her not to talk to her friends and few relatives. He also threatened to commit suicide if she did not accept his rules. He had also demanded Rs 1 lakh cash and gold from her.

Frustrated after repeated blackmail, she took the extreme step. ACP Kalyani Shetty, Ullal station officer Pavithra Teja and SI Bharathi are investigating further.
