Mangaluru: Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty has alleged that the Congress administration in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) was responsible for the plight of Pachanady dumping yard.

Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, November 5, the MLA said that the money earmarked for the development of Pacchanady dumping yard was used for a different purpose by the Congress, when it was in power in the MCC. “Though Health Department of the MCC has given a report on possible disaster in dumping yard, the Congress administration ignored it and did not take any measures for segregation of waste, scientific disposal of waste among others. The waste collection at dumping yard is around 400 tonnes per day.  The machines which are used at Pachanady dumping yard to segregate the waste are not able to segregate the huge quantity as the capacity of the machines is only 200 tonne per day,” he said.

Pointing out the agreement between MCC and Antony Waste Management, which has the contract to collect garbage from every house, Bharath Shetty said that garbage collection is not being done properly in the recent days as the MCC may have not given assured cooperation to the Antony Waste Management.

Meanwhile, Bharath Shetty alleged of corruption in implementing Underground Drainage System in Mangaluru North Constituency. Pointing out at the statement of former urban development minister Roshan Baig, Bharath Shetty said that when Roshan Baig visited Mangaluru, he admitted that there has been corruption in the implementation of UGD project and directed the CID to investigate.

He said that despite Rs 306 crore being spent for the implementation of UGD project,  drainage water has been leaking in many areas. In order to rectify the problem, work is being undertaken using Central government’s Amruth scheme now.

He informed that if BJP would be voted to power in the MCC, it would focus on infrastructure development for solid waste management and take all essential measures for rehabilitating those affected by the landslide at dumping yard.
