Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo launched the fourth round of Mission Indradanush at Lady Goschen Hospital here on Monday January 4.
The Central government introduced Mission Indradanush in 1994 with a view to prevent seven communicable diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough (pertussis), tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B. The fourth and final round of the programme will continue on January 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12.
Talking to the media, Lobo said that the public in DK have been responding positively to the programme. He said that the district has seen a lot of progress in connection to the implementation of Mission Indradanush. Though the case of polio is currently zero, it is necessary to ensure the same status as the number of migrant workers to DK is on the rise and hence prevention plays a pivotal role. He urged parents to act responsiblly and get their kids vaccinated under the programme.
A Lady Goschen Hospital staff informed that a target of immunizing 997 pregnant women and 4,373 kids below two years of age has been giving to them.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Srividya was present.
