Mangaluru: The MLC polls being around the corner, Dakshina Kannada District In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai has said that it is time for all the Congress members in the undivided Dakshina Kannada to exhibit their loyalty.

Addressing a press meet at the Congress Office here on Tuesday December 22, Rai said that the Congress party had given everything for its members who are at the grass root level and they are all indebted to the party adding the upcoming polls is a good opportunity to repay the debt by voting the party’s official candidate Pratapchandra Shetty. He added that all is well in the party and that workers are campaigning in unison for the official candidate.

The Congress is contesting for seven out of eight constituencies in Dakshina Kannada.

Talking about the Congress government’s achievements, Rai said that the Congress has decided to accredit the status of a state minister to the Zilla Panchayat Presidents in future. He said that the state government has also done its best in the distribution of BPL cards and grant if title deeds.

Taking a dig at the BJP government, he said that despite a record maximum decline in crude oil price in the past 11 years, the government hasn’t done enough to bring down petrol price and it is time that the potential voters for the upcoming polls to vote for the party candidate keeping all these aspects in mind.

It may be recalled that two rebel candidates Jayaprakash Hegde and Harikrishna Bantwal were ousted from the party after they refused to withdraw their nominations. Both candidates came out in open against the party’s official candidate stating his inefficiency and lack of interest in the candidature.

Recently Jayaprakash Hedge had alleged that the Congress party has been threatening the Gram Panchayat voters belonging to the Congress party to vote only for Pratapchandra Shetty. Refuting this, Rai said that the party never threatened anyone but requested everybody out of love and respect to support its official candidate.
