M’luru cops nab COVID-19 patient who escaped from Wenlock; Compol applauds

Mangaluru: The coronavirus patient, who managed to escape from Wenlock COVID hospital was caught on the police on Monday, July 6.

The patient identified as Devaraju, a resident of Darbe in Puttur had run away from the hospital on Sunday and the police had launched a manhunt.

Lauding the brisk operation of the police in nabbing the COVID-19 positive patient, Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar Vikash, in a tweet said: “Police Constables Shankarappa Lamani & Shankarappa Nandyal does real heroic act of tracing and arresting back the runaway (COVID-19) positive accused from Wenlock Hospital. But for their prompt and dedicated act, accused Devraj could have infected many, without even knowing it.”

The youth was reportedly caught near State Bank at about 3 pm, said sources. It is said that the locals tipped off the police about Devaraju, who was wandering near Nehru Maidan without food and money.

Devraju was tested positive on Sunday.
