Mangaluru: The second and ultimate day programme of Mangaluru Lit fest was held on Saturday April 9 with the first session being on Review of Text.

In this session Rohit Chakrateertha and Aravind Chokkadi were the resource persons. Rohit Chakrateertha said that, there was no text in Indian ancient education. Apart from Veda and other similar texts rest were the source of wordly life. The Guru transferred knowledge to students through kriya. And it is British who introduced text system, he said.

Social Science text is at the centre of controversy rather than Mathematics and Science because Mathematics and Science were written by Britishers where as Social Science was written by us. Even though we have written Social Science the boundaries were imposed by the Britishers. If we cross those boundaries today then they always create controversy, he noted.

Aravind Chokkadi said that there is no need of text in Gurukula system of education. Text is needexld when Guru is weak. In today’s education system they test only the child’s writing than analysing his or her thought process. One is least bothered about the listening capacity of the child, he observed.
