Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Arunangshu Giri and 30 other police officials appeared before Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh on Monday, March 9, in connection with the magisterial inquiry into the December 19, 2019 Mangaluru violence, and furnished their documents.
Even after having submitted some documents pertaining to the incident, DCP Arunangshu Giri has sought another date to submit the remaining documents. DC Jagadeesh, who is heading the inquiry, informed the mediapersons that DCP Arunangshu Giri and 30 other police officials appeared before him and shared information regarding the incident in question. Dakshina Kannada district Khazi Al-Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar also appeared before the magistrate and gave a written statement on the Mangaluru firing.
Jagadeesh also added that the statements of Mangaluru City Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha and other 40 other police officials will be recorded during the next hearing, scheduled to be held on March 12.
DCP Arunangshu Giri, while giving his statement to the magistrate, informed that more than 78 people sustained injuries during the incident, which led him to take action.
It can be noted that Assistant Commissioners of Police M Manjunath Shetty, T Kodandaram, Police Inspectors Shatharam Kundar, Mohammed Shareef have already given their statements to the investigating body.
