Mangaluru: Within two years, the coastal City will have a modern indoor stadium of national standards dedicated solely to shuttle badminton and kabaddi near Urwa Market.
Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) has begun construction of the proposed indoor stadium, which will include three kabaddi and five badminton courts. At a cost of Rs 20.54 crore, the basement and G+5 sports complex with seating capacity for 800 spectators was proposed.
According to sources, Mugrody Constructions has already been given the stadium project, which will be built on a 9588.8 sqm built-up area and will include parking.
In March 2018, former sports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj laid the foundation for the project in the presence of former MLA J. R. Lobo. The project was initially anticipated to cost Rs. 35 crore to complete. However, due to the project’s high cost, it was delayed. On November 4, a second foundation ceremony was held in the presence of Dakshina Kannada BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, and the anticipated cost was decreased to Rs. 20.54 crore.
Officials from MSCL stated they analysed a large amount of relevant data related to indoor sports complex projects and then incorporated it into the detailed project report.
