Mangaluru: The fifth Indira Canteen in the city was inaugurated at Pumpwell Circle on Tuesday, July 17 by Minister for urban development and housing, U T Khader.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration Khader informed that more such canteens will come up at Ullal, BC Road, Beltangady, Sullia and Puttur. Already four canteens are functioning at State Bank, Kavoor, Urwa Store and Suratkal in Mangaluru.

The canteens, introduced by the Siddarmaiah-led Congress government in the state, aim to provide quality food to the poor at reasonable rates and thereby ensure that they are not deprived of a day’s meal.
