Mangaluru: The tensions in Dakshina Kannada district refuse to die down with reports now emerging that an angry mob attacked a youth here near a Masjid at Kannur, hours after the death of SDPI leader Ashraf.
The injured Namitraj Poojary, a resident of Bantwal has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
The incident reportedly occured during the funeral procession of Ashraf in the presence of police. As per the reports, the youth was on his bike when a few persons who formed a part of the funeral procession vented out their ire on him as the police stood mute spectators.
It is gathered that the mob even resorted to pelting stones at the police vehicles.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident has gone viral on Whatsapp.
It may be recalled that Ashraf was hacked to death in broad daylight at Benjanapadavu of Bantwal on June 21.
A case stands registered with the Kankanady Rural Police.
