Mangaluru: Members of the Congress party, headed by former MLA J R Lobo staged a huge protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday, November 2, opposing sudden removal of Alok Verma as the Director of CBI by the Narendra Modi-led union government.

Addressing the protesters, J R Lobo said that the move was unconstitutional as the decision to appoint and remove CBI directors lies with a committee comprising the Chief Justice of India and Leader of the Opposition and the Prime Minister. “However, the Prime Minister took the unilateral decision of removing the director suddenly, fearing that the CBI would file a negative report on him with regard to the Rafale scam,” he said.

MLC Ivan D’Souza said, “it has been proved that the BJP does not have trust on the Democratic form of government as it has time and again showed that it is against the constitution. The CBI is an independent body and it should be left free to execute its power. As Modi was involved in the Rafale scam and over Rs 39,000 crore has been misused by him while purchasing Rafale jets, he has taken a decision of removing CBI’s director. If Modi was honest, why was Verma sacked all of a sudden, ” D’Souza questioned and asked the public to question the move of the Modi government.

Meanwhile, MLC Hareesh Kumar, Congress leaders like Kallige Tharananth Shetty, A C Vinayraj, Mariamma Thomas, Mamatha Gatti among others were present.
