Mangaluru : An exclusive report posted on Newskarnataka.com by one of its reporters, based on a Facebook post by journo turned politician and Mysuru MP Prathap Simha on actor Salman Khan hit and run case verdict, seems to have snowballed into a major controversy. The MP is now facing charges of abusing and threatening the reporter for publishing the report.
The report entitled “Don’t hound him just coz he is Salman Khan says MP Prathap Simha in a FB post” had appeared in Newskarnataka.com on May 8 and the reporter had subsequently posted a link of the article in a tweet to MP Prathap Simha’s Twitter account. It is believed that the MP who was enraged by the report, called the scribe and reportedly threatened to break his limbs. The MP has also been charged with abusing the journalist in filthy language. He also has tweeted a message to the reporter which read ‘Idiot don’t spread falsehood here.’
Sources say the Mysuru MP was visibily upset with the Newskarnataka.com report based on his Facebook post and had chosen to abuse the reporter after losing his cool, instead of issuing any clarification regarding this FB post.
Journalists take up cudgels : In the meantime, a delegation of journalists from Mangaluru have met Assistant Commissioner B Sadashiva Prabhu and DCP Vishnuvardhan seeking action against the Mysuru MP for his act of “abusing” and “threatening” a journalist.
Even journalists from other parts of the state including Bengaluru and Mysuru have condemned the act of the MP and have decided to take the issue further. Office bearers and members of Journalists’ Association and Journalists’ Study Centre of Bengaluru will also be meeting Home Minister KJ George on the issue.
