Mangaluru: Kadri Park will get additional funds to the tune of Rs 50 Lakh immediately to complete the ongoing musical fountain project, MLA J R Lobo confirmed after inspecting the works on Decemeber 3.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing the ongoing works at Kadri Park, MLA J R Lobo said, “Instructions have been given to all concerned to complete the pending works by this month so that it could be inaugurated before Republic day. The musical fountain project with a total outlay of Rs 5 Crore will be better than the one existing in Mysuru. It will be very attractive and will draw more people to the park once construction is completed.”
Kadri Park located in the heart of the coastal city provides breathing space for all citizens. People of all age groups use the park extensively and during weekends it draws huge number of visitors. In addition, many events are held in the park, recent ones being the wine festival before Christmas and Karavali Utsav to coincide with the New Year.
Full-fledged market at Bikarnakatte too
A full-fledged market will be constructed at Bikarnakatte and existing shops will be displaced temporarily for undertaking construction works, said MLA J R Lobo after reviewing the present market at Bikarnakatte in City on Tuesday.
MLA asked the officials to provide good drainage system in the area to enable smooth outflow of polluted and rain water to keep the market area clean. Separate shops will be constructed for meat and fish in the upcoming market, Lobo added and sought cooperation from the existing stall owners till the new market was established. MLA also asked the officials concerned to conduct a survey for the construction of the new shops and land to be utilised for National Highway on the occasion. The MLA said that the existing “Varada Santhe” ( Weekly fair) will also be displaced for construction purpose.
