Mangaluru: The Justice for Qureshi United Muslim Forum met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Wednesday and demanded his intervention in the alleged police atrocity on a Muslim youth and subsequent crackdown on protesters in Mangaluru.

The delegation was led by Ashraf K E, State Vice President of the State Minority Cell.

The Delegation also demanded:

1) Stringent action against the police officers of Mangaluru City Crime Branch. Suspension and filing of criminal case against them. Judicial or CID inquiry into the case.

2) Medical expenses of the victim of the police atrocity to be completely borne by state government should bear and compensation provided.

3) Withdrawal of the cases slapped against the protesters, who had gathered in front of the office of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner to condemn the alleged police atrocity.

4) Handing over of Urwa ASI Aithappa assault case to CID.

Later, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also assured the delegation of looking into the matter and taking proper action.

It may be recalled that the protest staged by the PFI members in Mangaluru a week ago turned ugly when the police resorted to wielding lathi at them. They were seeking justice for Ahmed Qureshi, a painter from Surathkal, who the protesters said was “unlawfully” assaulted by the police. In the lathi charge several protesters were injured.
