Mangaluru: The sudden disappearance of West Bengal native Abhijith Dey (22) on Friday, July 27 continues to be shrouded in mystery. Police have intensified their efforts to trace the whereabouts of Abhijith who had come to the city under the pretext of getting admission into a college in Manipal.

Abhijith, along with his father Devkumar Dey, had flown to Mangaluru on Friday. Upon arrival, they hired a taxi from the airport at Bajpe to reach Manipal. They halted at Kulur for a tea break. To his dismay, Devkumar couldn’t find his son anywhere.

Was Abhijith abducted?

According to reports, all efforts of Devkumar to reach Abhijith over the phone went in vain. His son’s phone was switched off. With the help of the locals, he tried to search for his son. Finally, he filed a missing report at the Kavoor Police Station.

There are suspicions that Abhijith might have been abducted. It is gathered that Abhijith had received a phone call when they were on their way to Manipal. Reportedly, Devkumar told the police that his son appeared shaken while speaking on the phone. Abhijith also played online games, his father told the police.

The police suspect that Abhijith might have lied to his father about getting admission at Manipal. It is gathered that the admissions to Manipal Institute of Technology, where Abhijit said he wanted to get admission, have already closed.

Is Abhijith hiding from someone?

Even after three days, the police have been unable to find Abhijith. According to sources, the police have found that Abhijith’s laptop is active. The laptop was used to access the internet from a public wi-fi facility. There are suspicions that Abhijith might be taking shelter in public places with Wi-Fi facility such as bus stand, railway stations, shopping malls and so on.

According to his parents, Abhijith was a brilliant student. They said that his behaviour did not raise any suspicions of danger. However, they now fear that their son may be in danger.
