Mangaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) District Spokesperson Jithendra Kottary has asked the Congress party to rename the Light House Hill Road after Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty, the former chairman of Vijaya bank, if it was really concerned about Vijaya Bank.
Addressing the mediapersons at BJP’s election office on Friday, April 5, Kottary said, “The decision of merging Vijaya Bank with other banks was taken when the UPA government was in power. But, in order to get political mileage, Congress has been blaming BJP government for merging the banks. If the Congress party has any concern for Vijaya Bank, why didn’t it do anything to name Light House Hill Road after Vijaya Bank’s former chairman Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty. How was his name replaced by St. Aloysius College Road?”, he questioned.
Meanwhile, Kottary announced that if the BJP government was voted back to power in the Centre and in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) in future, it would definitely keep Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty’s name to the Light House Hill Road.
Kottary informed that Congress had been indulging in vote bank politics and trying to create communal violence in the district. “The Congress government has withdrawn over 142 cases pertaining to the heinous crime, throughout the state. The accused in these cases belong to a minority community. The hidden agenda behind this decision was creating communal violence in the district and get the support of the accused in the Lok Sabha election”, he alleged.
BJP leaders Rukmaiah Poojary, Sanjaya Prabhu, Prabha Malini, Sanjay Prabhu and Krishnappa were present.
