Mangaluru: While common man is made to run from pillar to post after his name goes missing in the voter’s list, rarely do we find the VIPs confronting such a situation. Well, this incident proves that such a thing can happen to politicians as well.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader, who was at the Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat polling station to become the ‘first voter’ in the election to Legislative Council from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Local Bodies’ Constituency could not vote on Sunday as per his wish.
The reason was simple. The minister had to return from the venue after finding that his name was not in the voters’ list.
An enthusiastic UTK had arrived at the polling station at about 8.20 am, but to his dismay the polling staff told him that his name was missing in the list.
After some work, the staff informed him that his name has been listed in Ullal city municipality polling station.
The Minister then rushed to Ullal and cast his vote.
However, it is said that Khader had given his preference to cast vote in the taluk panchayat station.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Kumar had called up the minister to apologize for the mistake and inconvenience caused due to ‘miscommunication’.
