Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration is planning to come up with a new mobile app in order to address the problems related to the transport department soon.
Chairing the Road Transport Authority (RTA) meeting at DC’s office on Wednesday, December 19, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said, “People have been complaining about non-issuance of bus tickets by the private bus operators, behaving rude with the passengers, parking in prohibited zones, demand for excess fare by the autorickshaw drivers among others. In order to address these problems, a mobile app will be started soon”, he said.
“Technical experts have been working on this mobile app, which will be ready in the next four months. As there is an option available to the passengers to give complaints and suggestions in the app, the concerned authorities will be able to take suitable measures”, Sasikanth added.
‘Pillion rider helmet rule must be revoked’
Meanwhile, a social activist Gerald Towers of Kadri urged that the compulsory helmet rule for pillion riders must be withdrawn. Citing repeated incidents of chain snatching in city, he said, “Those who engage in chain snatching misuse this rule and wear helmet in order to hide their identity. Fatal accidents take place not because of riding without helmet but due to pathetic condition of roads”, he stressed.
