Mangaluru: Ganesh idols are here in the city as Ganesha festival is going on. Among wide varieties of Ganesha idols that are available, the ones made by city-based sculptor Nithin Vas stand out. Made out of eco-friendly paper-pulp, these Ganesha idols have a seed implanted in them.

“We’ve not used toxic paints or any other toxic materials. This idol is embedded with vegetable seeds or fruit seeds. Once the idols are immersed, they will grow into a plant,” Vas told ANI.
Ganesha idols were prepared by crushing old newspapers and books into pulp before embedding them with fruit, vegetable and tree seeds. Wherever they land, these seeds will grow once the paper dissolves in water after immersion.
A post on twitter about this initiative has bagged a lot of attention and appreciation. “This is really amazing, these steps will surely help in decreasing pollution and increase green cover,” wrote a Twitter user. “Omg! I hope this becomes a success,” tweeted another; “Wonderful work,” said another user.
Having made about 30 to 40 Ganesha idols this year he expects to have a better demand next year.
