Nitin Gadkari lays foundation stone for fishing jetty through video conference

Mangaluru: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the much-awaited fishing jetty at Kulai was performed by Union Minister for Road Transport Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari through video conference at Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary hall in Panambur on Tuesday, March 5.

Also, foundation stones were laid for several developmental works under Sagarmala and Bharathmala projects. Nitin Gadkari, after laying foundation stone said, ” a total of 20 fishing jetties will be constructed across the country at the cost of Rs 4132 crore which will benefit the fishermen. As the fishing jetty at Kulai can accommodate over 300 boats, it will help the fishermen to boost their income and the jetty will be completed by 2022″, he said.

Gadkari congratulated MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for his continuous follow up for the development works for the DK district. Speaking about the Thokkottu and Pumpwell flyover project he said that he had already ordered the NHAI officials to complete both the flyovers within the scheduled period.

Kailash Agarwal, Joint secretary Sagarmala project informed that the fishing jetty at Kulai was long pending demand. “The government has already released Rs 49 crore for the project and state government should support to execute the project”, he added.

While addressing the gathering DK district in-charge Minister U T Khader said, “though we belong to different political parties, we unite together when it comes to issues related to development. Whenever a project has been sanctioned, local MP’s, MLA’s, corporators should join hands to implement the project for the sake of the district. The construction of jetty is a joint venture of the state government and central government to curb the pressure at the Kotepur jetty”, he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said “Mangaluru is the only place where we have a smart city project and Amruth scheme together. Meanwhile, he clarified that there would not be any problem for the fishermen during the construction work of jetty. If any problem occurred, we are ready to stop the project”, he said.
