Surathkal: A student of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Suratkal, who was enjoying his favourite music with his earphones on during a lazy morning stroll with friends, was killed after being run over by a train on Friday, December 4.

The deceased is Chethan Chandrakanth Chandavar (20), a V semester Mechanical Engineering student from Kumta.

It is said that Chethan and his two friends-Lakshmeesh and Sahana went out for a stroll on Friday morning as their hectic semester exams had ended on Thursday.

The trio was walking on railway track near Pavanje when a train knocked Chethan down, killing him. It is said that though the two other friends who were walking behind him at some distance shouted out to warn Chethan about the train, their alarm fell on deaf ears as Chethan was enjoying music with his earphone on.

In a bid to save Chethan, Lakshmeesh and Sahana have both sustained injuries.

A case has been registered in Suratkal police station.
