The inauguration of the Nitte Jackfruit Processing Cluster marks a significant boost to jackfruit processing in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The cluster unveiled a range of products, including vacuum-fried chips, seed powder, halwa, and jackfruit juice, during its commercial launch on Friday.

Anantha Padhamanabha Achar, CEO at AIC Nitte Incubation Centre, highlighted the transformative potential of the cluster in utilizing the region’s abundant jackfruit resources. With an estimated 25,999 tonnes of jackfruit, of which nearly 90% goes to waste, the cluster aims to revolutionize jackfruit utilization.

Achar outlined the center’s phased production plans, including the introduction of 10 ready-to-cook items, pickles made from raw jackfruit, and various products derived from seed powder. The initiative aims to create direct employment opportunities for 1,000 women through the establishment of 30 primary processing centers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Funded by the Ministry of MSME under the SFURTHI scheme, the Nitte Jackfruit Processing Cluster operates under the Suphala Farmers Producer Company Limited. With a processing capacity of 6,000 tonnes per day, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, the cluster also plans to process other fruits and vegetables, diversifying its capabilities and benefiting farmers and entrepreneurs alike.
